Getting accepted in an online MBA program does not come without a challenge. The screening process is often strict and competition for the number of allowed students is tough. This is why you need to prepare and work hard before sending your application for the program.
To be admitted into the program, you should satisfy a number of requirements. How you do in these requirements will determine whether you get accepted or not. The requirements for different MBA specializations are basically the same for all schools offering the program, with an addition of one or two more for some schools.
The very first thing you need to apply for an online MBA program is a high GMAT score. GMAT stands for Graduate Management Admissions Test. It is a standard computer adaptive test that measures a person’s skills in English and Math and determines his or her capacity to be successful in graduate business studies.
You can take GMAT at any designated testing center in any part of the world. A fee of $250 is required for all who will take the exam. The test is quite long and on average can take up to 4 hours to complete.
In some countries where there is a limited availability of computers, the exam may be given as a paper-based test. It may be available only during particular times of the year. In others, it may be administered through temporary testing centers equipped with computers.
The important thing to remember about GMAT is that it only measures your English and mathematical skills. It does not measure your business or management or any other related skill; instead, it measures your analytical writing skills, quantitative skills, and verbal skills. Thus, you need not be worried about not knowing enough about business and management.
However, you still should take the exam seriously and give it ample preparation so you can have a good score. Generally, GMAT scores range from 200 to 800, with 500 being the average. Most business schools require a score within the range of upper 600 to lower 700 in order to be eligible for admission into their online MBA program.
There are several ways to prepare for GMAT. You can study on your own using a reviewer or you can use Graduate Management Admission Council’s preparation materials and software. You can also enroll in classroom or online GMAT review classes or hire a private tutor to train you.
If you are not satisfied with your exam results, you can take the test again when 31 days have lapsed. However, you should note that your three most current GMAT results will be reflected in your official score report, which is sent to the business school where you are applying. Your GMAT score is valid for 5 years only.
GMAT is administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council. You should bear in mind that calculators are not allowed and that digital watches need to be temporarily surrendered during the exam. In order to get into an online MBA program, you should prepare well for GMAT and aim for a high, above average score.
