Masters in Education: Primary School

Take a deeper look at primary education as a Masters in Education program.

Who doesn’t love kids? They are fun, cute, funny, and say the darnedest things. Don’t be fooled, though, because teaching little children is quite a challenge professionally, which is why there exists a Masters in Education degree specifically on Primary Education.

A Masters degree in Education that is focused on primary education aims to prepare teachers for several challenges ahead. The goal is to educate Masters students so that they could effectively improve the quality of education for little children using fun, systematic and yet rigorous methods to engage and enhance the learning of children. The program aims to develop the skills and abilities of students so that they can significantly contribute to the development of related policies and practices.

Primary education is more commonly referred to as Elementary school. It is a compulsory program that comes after nursery and before secondary school. Many consider this is the core of education; students at this stage learn all that they are going to learn in life and only get enhanced later on.

The goal of Elementary school is to establish foundations in Science, Mathematics, History, Language, and the Social Sciences. These subject areas just get built on in secondary and tertiary education. It is important that primary school students get a good grasp of these concepts while yet at this stage of life.

Students in Masters in Primary Education are given the chance to engage in discussions among peers. To many, this is a break from the routine of teaching and a great opportunity to collaborate with other teachers in tackling critical issues regarding primary education. They will also be tasked to do research on related subject matter.

The program will also engage the students to explore new ways and methods of improving their school’s curriculum and pedagogy. After they finish their schooling in a Masters class, they are expected to deliver. Some of these students may have been sent on sponsorship by their own employers and so much is expected of them.

An important and staple Masters course in Primary Education is Teaching and Learning in Primary School. This discusses the elements of an effective and successful primary education program. To truly understand the kind of teaching and learning that must exist in primary school, students will learn about theories of learning, how to motivate children, development of children and teens, and social relationships.

Two other necessary courses are the Critical Perspective in Primary Education and Educational Themes and Challenges in Teaching Little Children. These courses focus on the development of a curriculum that specifically addresses the needs of little children. Curriculum need to be changed regularly because children are living in a highly dynamic world, especially with how much technology is advancing.

Primary school is just one of many Masters in Education programs offered in a number of universities and teaching colleges across the United States. Programs vary according to a teacher’s specialization. There are different courses for each program, but a common course that must be taken by all Masters students is Research Methods.

Research skills are essential to teachers if they wish to be the best at what they do. As students complete their Masters in Education program and go back to their schools, they are expected to perform better and contribute significantly to the development of their schools. One way they can do this is to engage in several research studies in Primary Education that are relevant to their school-employer.
